Solo Life
How do you actually meet people while traveling solo?
Quick answer
Hostels aren't the only way — free walking tours, cooking classes, and small-group day experiences are all lower-commitment ways to end up with company for a few hours without booking a whole social trip.
Lower-commitment ways to meet people
- Free walking tours — self-selecting for people who also want to talk to someone.
- A cooking class or small-group day tour — 3-4 hours of built-in conversation, no ongoing commitment.
- Coworking spaces, even for a single day pass, if you’re the Workation type.
What tends not to work
Big multi-day group tours can feel like the opposite of solo travel if that’s not what you actually wanted from the trip.
The honest caveat
Some days you won't meet anyone, and that's normal, not a sign you're doing it wrong.
